Scheduled Switching
This is a Pro feature. Scheduled switching is not available on the free tier.
WorkTop can automatically switch to a desktop at a specific time on chosen days of the week. This is useful if you follow a routine, for example switching from "Work" to "Personal" at 5 PM every weekday.
Creating a schedule
- Open the Manager window (double-click the tray icon, or launch WorkTop from the Start menu).
- Click Schedules in the sidebar.
- In the creator bar at the top, pick the desktop you want to switch to.
- Select the days of the week by clicking the day buttons (M, T, W, etc.).
- Set the time you want the switch to happen.
- Click Add.
The schedule is active immediately. WorkTop will switch to the selected desktop at the specified time on the chosen days.
Managing schedules
All your schedules are listed below the creator bar. Each entry shows the target desktop, the days and time, and a toggle to enable or disable it.
- Enable or disable: use the toggle next to a schedule to temporarily pause it without deleting it.
- Delete: click the trash icon to permanently remove a schedule.
You can create multiple schedules for different desktops, days, and times.
What happens when a schedule triggers
At the scheduled time, WorkTop performs a normal desktop switch. Your current icon layout is saved, the Desktop folder is swapped, and the target desktop's layout is restored. It works the same as switching manually.
If your computer is asleep or hibernating when a schedule was supposed to trigger, WorkTop will skip that occurrence rather than switching unexpectedly when you wake the computer later.
Good to know
- WorkTop must be running for schedules to trigger. If the app is not running at the scheduled time, the switch will not happen.
- Schedules are saved to disk and restored when WorkTop starts, so they persist across restarts.
