Quick Switcher
The Quick Switcher is the fastest way to move between desktops. Press a keyboard shortcut and a visual overlay appears with preview thumbnails of all your desktops. One click or keypress and you're there.
How to use it
Press Alt+W to open the Quick Switcher. A transparent overlay appears in the center of your screen showing all your desktops as thumbnail cards. The currently active desktop is highlighted.
- Click any desktop card to switch to it immediately.
- Press Alt+W again (while still holding Alt) to cycle to the next desktop.
- Press Alt+Shift+W to cycle back to the previous desktop.
- Release Alt to confirm and switch to the highlighted desktop.
- Press Escape to cancel and stay on your current desktop.
Desktop previews
Each desktop card in the Quick Switcher shows a small thumbnail preview of what that desktop looks like. Previews are captured automatically after you switch away from a desktop, so they stay up to date as you work.
If a preview hasn't been captured yet (for example, on a brand-new desktop), a placeholder is shown instead.
Changing the hotkey
If Alt+W conflicts with another application, you can change it:
- Open the Manager window (double-click the tray icon, or launch WorkTop from the Start menu).
- Go to Settings in the sidebar.
- Click the Quick Switcher Hotkey field and press your preferred key combination.
The hotkey is registered globally, so it works from any application.
Tips
- The Quick Switcher is designed for speed. You can switch desktops without taking your hands off the keyboard.
- If you only have two desktops, Alt+W acts as a quick toggle between them.
- The overlay closes automatically after switching, so it never gets in your way.
