Context Menu

WorkTop adds a Send to Desktop option to the Windows right-click menu. This lets you move files from your current desktop to any other desktop without opening the Manager window.

How to use it

  1. Right-click one or more files or folders on your Desktop in Windows Explorer.
  2. In the context menu, hover over Send to Desktop.
  3. A submenu appears listing all your other desktops. Click the one you want to send the files to.
  4. The files are moved to the target desktop.

How it works

The context menu is powered by a Windows shell extension that integrates directly with Explorer. It communicates with the running WorkTop application to get the list of desktops and perform the file move.

Files are physically moved between desktop folders, not copied. The operation is the same as dragging files between folders in Explorer.

Enabling or disabling

The context menu integration is enabled by default. If you'd prefer not to have it, you can toggle it off:

  1. Open the Manager window (double-click the tray icon, or launch WorkTop from the Start menu).
  2. Go to Settings in the sidebar.
  3. Toggle Windows context menu off.

Changes take effect after Explorer restarts (or after a system reboot).

Good to know

  • The context menu only appears when you right-click files on the Desktop or in a Desktop folder in Explorer.
  • WorkTop must be running for the context menu to work. If the app isn't running, the menu item won't appear.
  • The current desktop is not listed in the submenu. Only other desktops are shown as targets.
