Windows 8.1

WorkTop depends on system libraries that are not included in a fresh Windows 8.1 installation. Running Windows Update and installing all available updates will add the required components.

If you see an error about a missing .dll file when starting WorkTop, your system is missing these updates.

Stardock Fences

Stardock Fences takes control of desktop icon positions. This conflicts with WorkTop's layout save and restore feature. When Fences is enabled, WorkTop cannot reliably reposition icons after switching desktops.

Desktop file separation (each desktop having its own files) still works normally. Only the icon layout restoration is affected.

WorkTop will show a warning on startup if it detects Fences installed.

Windows 7 and earlier

Windows 7 and earlier versions are not supported. They are missing system components that WorkTop requires, and these cannot be added through Windows Update.
